Starting a business is tough. There are so many moving parts, so many things to figure out, and then, on top of all that, during a time when you have to exert all of the energy, money, spiritual and physical strength you have, you are all alone.
I’ve been there and I’ve done that many times, across different industries. And even when you think you are doing very well, sometimes it seems like nothing matters. That you do not matter.
Gatherings you are not part of. Features that have not seen the sight of you. Conversations that don’t even know you exist.
Okay, to be fair, I still made it even without all that. But wouldn’t it have been more special, more human, and more meaningful if I had?
I mean, it really is hard to be a newcomer. A new student, a new employee, a new business owner, a new mother, a new anything. We’ve all been there, both at the receiving and giving end of that phase.
But how often do we actually stop and think about what it feels like to be the new person in the room?
This is where it changes. And we are determined to make that change.
The RMW Edit is our newest blog that hopes to talk about you, nails, business, careers, culture and conversations.
You know, in this day and age, we can’t really say, “I didn’t get featured. No one gave me the chance. No one gave me a platform." Because the truth is, we can now make our own. And that is exactly what we’re doing.
With The RMW Edit, we’re creating a platform to talk more about you. About the things that can help you, the things you’re going through, the things you’re building, and even the things we don’t talk about enough in this industry.
We want to share stories from people you might know, and people you probably don’t know yet. We want to talk about ideas, experiences, lessons, mistakes, careers, businesses and everything else that happens beyond the nail table.
Because you don’t have to wait for someone else to think your story is worth telling. The RMW Edit is the space we’ve created to help tell and celebrate your stories.
And while we’re creating our own space for these stories and conversations, we thought, why not create a space for them to happen in real life, too?
So, along with The RMW Edit, we’re also starting a new thing:
The RMW Table. A table you get invited to without requirements.
Where you can take part and simply be yourself. You don’t have to be successful yet, you don’t have to be famous, you don’t need a multitude of followers, and you certainly don’t need an impressive title or a long list of achievements. You don’t have to prove that you’ve made it or that you’re someone worth knowing. You can still be figuring things out, still learning, still building, or even just starting. You can come as you are, wherever you are in your journey.
A table you can join as you are.
A table where conversations, connections, and real human relationships are to be had. A table where you can loosen up and feel safe to share vulnerabilities without judgement. Where you can share thoughts and ideas you’re happy to put out there.
A table you can come dressed up to, express yourself, or maybe finally have that chance to wear that special dress you’ve been saving. But also, a table you can join without having to dress up that much at all.
A table where we can be humans and a little less of the machines we sometimes become when we’re at our nail tables.
This is a different one.
And while we are doing this purely to create a sense of welcoming and belonging, we hope something more fruitful will come out of it. Friendships. Business connections. Ideas. Improvements. Mentorship between each other. Maybe even things we haven’t thought of yet.
But How Do I Get a Seat?
Now, with everything said, it might sound like everyone is welcome. And yes, that is correct.
But we can only handle a handful at a time. So please don’t feel bad if you haven’t been invited to The RMW Table yet. We plan to keep these gatherings small, truthful, and genuine.
We have a lot of things to do in both our lives and our businesses (you and us) and if we’re going to do something else to add to our already long to-do list, we want to make sure it’s worthwhile. For now, the best way we know how to do that is by keeping these gatherings small. And we’ll never know. As we go through it, we might figure out how we can make it bigger, create more tables, and make room for more people.
Oh, and did I mention this isn’t exactly exclusive to RMW students? When we say everyone, we mean it.
The First RMW Table
We’re not waiting too long to get started. The first RMW Table will be held this September.
For our first table, we’ll be keeping things intentionally small. A handful of seats, good food, and hopefully even better conversations.
Invitations for our first guests will be going out soon. And if your invitation isn’t among the first ones, please don’t take it as a sign that there isn’t a seat for you. We’re only setting the first table and there will definitely be more.
There is a lot to look forward to, and we are happy to see you.
Welcome to The RMW Edit, where you can read more about you and those like you.
And we’re looking forward to welcoming you, one day, at The RMW Table.
